How to Use Personalised Chocolates in Direct Mail

Personalised Chocolate BarsSo you’ve decided to add personalised chocolates in your direct mail campaign. Awesome. How do you really make sure everything goes as planned? These things are definitely not rocket science but if you don’t remember they could cost you not only money but even clients.

1) Get the right packaging – You want to make sure that as the envelopes are dropped through the letter box your customers don’t end up with broken chocolate bars or smashed truffles. When you’re placing your order be sure to mention how you plan on sending them out.

2. What’s your objective? – Every marketing activity must have an end goal or else it’s like flushing money down the drain.

What action do you want those who receive the chocolates to take? Do you want them to call you? Then, put it there. Don’t add it in a dull way though. Let’s say you run a spa, you can add something like dial up a back massage. I’m sure you can do better than that though.

3. Measure – If you don’t have an objective with the chocolates then you’ll have nothing to measure.  How will you be able to tell whether or not you’ve been successful? Your objective is what creates a call to action such as click through for a success recipe or whatever you choose.

If you’re using a link make it unique. For example use a link shortener so that the URL is unique to the campaign. One thing I’ve done in the past is to create a new page for every new campaign but not make the page public i.e visible on my website or even indexed by Google. This way I’m sure that any traffic I get is from the campaign. Feel free to ask me more about that.

Remember to add your Google analytics tracking code or any other analytics to the page though so you can measure how many people clicked through. If you put a phone number and voucher code then it makes it even easier to measure the effectiveness of your campaign.

I hope this has shone some light on how to do this right. If you need help feel free to ask. Also, if you have tips on running a direct mail campaign please share them. Did I leave anything out?
